Week 6

Hello once again my friends,

I believe I left off a week and a half ago on Wednesday saying that we were going to Clarkston. Well, since school was coming to an end we ended up not going. Instead we went to Sunrise, which is a retirement center for people with Alzheimer. We went and played games with them and just talked with them. There was a lady there who was really struggling. She was new to the facility and was extremely depressed. I tried to talk with her and show her love, but it seemed impossible to do so. Since we left I have been praying that God would be in that situation. When we were getting ready to leave they would not let us go with out singing some hymns to them. They were so sweet and childlike.

Thursday we went downtown to Underground Atlanta once again and prayed for those that would allow us to pray for them. We had some very good conversations with people and were able to really encourage people in Christ. Several of those we prayed for were true Christ followers, but were homeless and in desperate need of encouragement. There was such a sense of hopelessness and I saw that the Christians we encountered were encouraged and trusting in God’s provision and faithfulness.

This past week we talked about how to study the scripture. I cannot begin to tell you just how encouraged I was this week. The teaching was amazing and truly opened my eyes to how to read scripture. I have learned that it is okay to just sit back and observe the scripture. It’s important to allow the scripture to interpret itself. This week was a healing week for our group and a time of growing unity.

Wednesday we went to Clarkston and helped clean and organize the place for summer. Jen, one of my team leaders, and I are going to help Mr. Bennett, the head of Clarkston, come up with English curriculum for summer school. Neither one of us is very well prepared for such an undertaking. Friday we went to City of Refuge and were able to talk with middle to high school students and encourage them to be people of integrity and pursue Christ.

Prayer points:

  • We found out that the first week of outreach is going to be to downtown Atlanta, then, we will go to East Asia for a month, and finally to Chicago. Please be in prayer as we prepare to go out. Pray for God’s provision, protection, and guidance.

  • Also, pray that God will provide for us this week. We have a team of about fifty people coming to work on our base and our sewage system is not working. We had them flushed out this past week and found out that the sewage was on the verge of backing up into the house. We are severely limiting our usage of water and with this team coming it may not be able to stand up under the pressure.

  • Pray for continued group unity.

  • Pray for Me because I have been sick for a week now.

Thank you all so much for your support. It is such a comfort to know that I have people praying for me. If there is something I can do for any of you please don’t hesitate to let me know.
