This week we worked most of the time with a inner city mission called City of Refuge. They are located across the street from the area in Georgia with the most crime. Many of the kids moved into City of Refuge with their mom whose only other option was the streets. It was such a tough week to work with the kids. The most common phrase among them was "I am gonna kill you" Sometimes it was joking, but more often it was a serious thing.
However, it was such a joy to see transformation in their lives as the week progressed. I saw a child go from hyper and uncontrollable to calm, loving, and sane. I saw another that was angry and vengeful to a much calmer and more responsive child. However, he does hold onto his anger still. I was able to pray with one girl who knows several babies with stomach issues. We prayed for God to heal them and I believe He will just to build her faith in Him. I was able to tell the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and encourage the students to pursue doing right over wrong no matter what they profit from it. I saw many of the kids put this into practice over night. Pray that this continues on into next week and the rest of their lives.
This is just a snapshot of all the things God did this week in their lives. It would take a week to tell you just what God has been doing so I have to content myself with summarizing what I see happening. The next post is another aspect of what God's been up to this week.
